Girls

by Andi

/

about

“Girls” is not only representative of my lived experience as a queer womxn, it’s a low-key effort to normalize lesbian relationships and reclaim this aspect of womxn’s sexuality in media.
The song relays a lead character who is cheeky and alluring, trying to express her feelings to a (partially) unrequited love - someone who's yet to come to terms with their own sexuality. It follows the excitement and frustration of wanting to connect with someone who has clearly not found themselves yet. The song still has a sense of levity and playfulness, showing both the flirtatious nature of the tune and helping the listener feel the spark and tension between the two.

lyrics

Why you calling him?
Why you callin
When you should me calling me?
In your moments of comfort, your moments of need, girl
What you calling him for
Why you calling him
When you should be calling me
In your comments of comfort, your moments of need, girl

Would he drop if for ya, would he drop it for ya?
Would he drop it for you baby? I would drop it at a moments notice.

Why you calling him?
Yeah, why you calling him?
Do you think he think he has the key?
To the moments that matter, the moments that need me?
Girl, what you calling him for?
Do you think that he could sing for ya?
He ain’t got the range for ya do the thing and bring it to ya give you everything go down again and make ya *ahh

Would he drop it for ya, would he drop it for ya? I would drop it at a moments notice. Yeah, oh.
Would he drop it for you, baby? I would drop it at a moments notice.

I know you only call me when it’s late at night,
You only call me when you’re getting high
You only call me when you think you might
I make you nervous at the sight, girl
I know you got a mind that’s running all the time
Need someone just to hold you tight
And tell you everything’s alright
Still, it don’t change a thing you only ring me up at midnight

Would he drop it for ya, would he drop it for ya
I would drop it at a moments notice yeah
Would he drop it for ya baby
I would drop it at a moments notice
Would he drop it for ya, would he drop it for ya
I would drop it at a moments notice
Yeah
Oh
